Quality & Packing

Checked, weighed, sealed

Quality begins with the leaf and ends with the seal on the sack. Below is what is checked before a lot is approved, and how approved tea is packed and dispatched from Guwahati.

Quality control

What we check

Dry leaf inspection

Every lot is examined for make, uniformity, colour, stalk and fibre content, and foreign matter before it is cupped. Leaf that is uneven or carries excess fibre is re-sorted or rejected at this stage.

Cupping protocol

A fixed brew — measured leaf, freshly boiled water, timed infusion — so that lots can be compared like for like. The taster records infusion colour, briskness, body, aroma and any off-notes.

Liquor and infusion

Liquor colour and clarity are assessed against the grade standard, and the wet infusion is checked for evenness of oxidation. Bright, clean liquor with no dullness is the benchmark.

Moisture and stability

Moisture is verified in the region of 2–3%. Higher moisture shortens shelf life and risks mustiness in transit; lower moisture makes the leaf brittle and increases fines.

Batch consistency

Repeat buyers are supplied against an approved reference sample, and each dispatch is cupped back against that reference so the cup does not drift between consignments.

Weight and documentation

Sacks are weighed and reconciled against the invoice, and every batch carries a code linking it back to grade, lot and dispatch records.
